Is it not the dissonant 9 that brings you out of key rather than the voicing? I don’t see how the voicing itself does much for the modulation (besides just giving the gm9 chord some space).

Mr. Bradley, do you ever make use of melody reductions like Ed Byrne? I never read his books but I’ve heard him talking about this. It might have roots in Schenkerian analysis. The way I do it is find the notes that fall on or near the strong beats then making a kind of melody guide tone line out of them. It seems helpful for distilling the essence of the melody yet giving room for embellishments.

Hey thanks for your great video ! If you plan 2 5 1 in C major isn't is going to sound out of tune to add accidentals if you play with other musicians ? Also A7 is not in the C scale harmonisation so again won't it sound out of tune? Thank you very much !

Is that a Genos Keyboard?

I learned with a teacher many years ago but didn't finish. I know the notes, the treble and bass clef (bass was always harder to remember for some reason) but playing by ear is a lot easier for me. The problem with playing by ear is that it's harder to know the chords and bass clef as opposed to just the right hand notes (at least for me.) The bass clef has just always been weird to memorize and hear and I don't know why.
